How to Care for and Clean the Exterior of Your New Gutters and Downspouts
Here’s a handy cleaning solution to help keep the exterior of your gutters and downspouts clean.
1/3 cup detergent (such as Tide, Wisk, etc.)
2/3 cup Soilax (you can find it at Home Depot, etc.)
1 quart liquid bleach (such as Clorox)
3 quarts water
The cleaning solution can be either sprayed or applied with a sponge or soft bristle brush. Allow it to remain for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with a hose. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid skin contact or getting the solution in your eyes.
Caution: Greater concentrations may cause damage to the finish. Never use abrasive or solvent type cleaners or paint removers.
The solution will remove tree sap stains, insecticides and chimney fumes. Never use anything more than a soft bristle brush. Your gutters and downspouts have a finish that is resistant to dirt adhesion, which greatly minimizes loose surface dirt caused by normal rainfall.
